My first VIDCOM

It all started with midnight madness Friday night. 7 to 12 pm it was an anticipated night. The rain started the night but didn’t put a damper on things. We were faced with challenging prompts. We had only a few hours for assignments. With creative thinking and fast paced filming we met every deadline! I don’t think our team produced one piece of work that was bad. The team did a great job and it was very entertaining! Over all I had a lot of fun laughing and filming. I learned new things and grew a little as a person. One show even made me cry! I learned how good other schools really are and I hope to come back next year ready to win! It was a nice taste of competition and journalism. I learned to rush and beat deadlines. And I learned not to stand around cords. I’m happy for the prizes Hillcrest won! We had good competition and Hillcrest did great. I love everyone in HTV and I’m blessed to be a part of the program! I hope we can participate in more competitions! I’m glad I still have another year of HTV and I have much more to learn. And much more to prove and do!

My First HTV Story

Well let’s just say I hope the first show is the only worst show I have this year. My first HTV story definetly taught me a lot and showed me the things I need to improve.
I was the photographer for a story on a Walk for dogs, that raised money for cancer. It was like Relay for life but with dogs. I thought this is going to be a super cute cool story! I didn’t expect a challenge at all what so ever. We just filmed what we thought we needed.
Outside, the camera looks funny so what you see is what you get. Instead of using the eye piece I just used te viewer. Big mistake. I had no idea that my camera was on manual and the iris was wide open and out of focus. I didn’t know what an iris even was so basically my B roll and one interview were pretty soiled.
I learned that a tri pod is ALWAYS necessary or Davis insults you even more than usual. I also learned to get a lot of interviews! You don’t want to not have enough information.
Thankfully my fellow HTV mate showed me the iris on a camera and some other tricks in focusing.(: I learned my lesson and I’m ready to prove myself HTV worthy! I’m excited about the rest of the year and competitions! I know to take every story seriously and to take my time to make the best quality!

Autism

What do you think of when you hear the word “Autism.” I know I never really knew much about it or what it even was. I think so many people really under estimate autism and the impact it has on our community.
Autism is a disorder that affects how you react to things. It makes people scared of certain things and some things upset them. Something as simple as the wind blowing the trees can scare a child with Autism. Saturday, September 7th I learned so much and I was impacted by what I saw.
On Saturday I participated in a walk for autism which basically raised money and awareness for a cure for autism. I was doing a backpack story over it. It was a short walk, and at the end I needed some interviews to finish my backpack story. I met a woman whom had a Bestfriend who had autism and helped her raise her son with autism. She passed away and inspired her. She also has two other children with autism and her husband is over seas. This woman has been impacted by autism and deals with it every day. Yet she smiles and seems so happy. In my mind all I could think was you’re so strong. Then meeting her children. It was just such an amazing expierence that taught me what autism really is. Autism is real and she had great advice on how not to be scared of it. Stay posted I can’t wait to upload the final Project!

My Baptism

20130902-101437.jpg

9-1-13 was my Baptism. It was so much more than just a Baptism. It was a way of getting my family into church, a new beginning for me. It shows me how far I’ve come in my walk with God. I’ve always told myself my goals in life are to make my parents proud and make God proud. I know that last night my parents were so proud and God was sure smiling. I love Crossway so much, it has worked wonders in my life. God’s really got his hand over this church, and you can always feel his presence. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without God. I always wanted my life to be different and it’s so different and so much better. I’m excited to keep growing and I’m excited to see what God is going to do in my family’s lives. Psalm 116:6 is one of my favorites that I use when talking about my testimony.

Junior Year!

I always was told your sophmore year was the hardest, but now that I’m a junior I disagree. I cant even imagine what its going to be like as a senior. Dual Enrollment classes, homework, job, money for gas, and car payments. We take the hardest classes to make us look smarter, and teach us things we’ll forget about in a year, but colleges love it!  Don’t forget those awesome extra curricular activited we do to look good on our colleg app! And the clubs all have joining fees! I’m only 16, and I work at McDonalds people. I feel like a chicken with my head cut off. I’m always running here to there and i have this to do. I just want eat chocolate and watch Pretty Little Liars.  But I’m going to have a positive outlook on shcool and each of my classes! Then maybe I will love school more! When I take notes I can use colorful pens! And I get to see my friends (: And my classes will benefit me in the long run. My teachers arent so bad I actually like a fw of them! I just hope I can pass these tests. I’d rather draw smiley faces all over my paper than take notes, but with strength from God I can conquor my junior year! Expenses, school, and stress, it’s all gunna get worse so I gotta just be happy and live for now.
